Our first preseason friendly of the 2010/2011 season against Mary’s old boys. A good test and a good result, 4-1 winners.
We started off slowly which was to be expected, Mary’s old boys were playing their 4th friendly so we had to work hard to bridge that gap. But we got ourselves into the game creating a couple of chances in the 1st 20 mins. The best of those fell to macca after some tight neat football Jake put macca through whose 1st touch created a shooting chance bringing a decent save from the keeper.
The opener came on 30 mins when matt sent macca down the left with a cleverly taken quick free kick from which macca crossed for mike to open his account with a ferocious header which left the keeper no hope!
The 2nd half saw Marys dominate more and the pressure told when Jake broke into the box and unselfishly lob the ball over for macca to head home. The 3rd was a piece of individual brilliance when matt playing in the centre of midfield with Alex whom both had fine games, turned his man and let loose a belter which smashed into the bottom corner. A well deserved goal. Mary’s old boys got their consolation when they won a free kick 20 yards out which saw a decent finish into the bottom corner, a goal we were unlucky to concede after a fine defensive display. The scoring was rounded off when unsy was sent down the left flank and put in a beauty of a cross in-between the keeper and the last man, for Lewis who showed great composure to place home. A good performance today with everybody playing their part, I only mention the goals above but the team wins a game and today the whole team played their part so lets take that into next weeks game against a good team in PSN mabs cross !!
