Open Age (18/04/09)
Horwich St Mary's ventured back into open age 2008/09 season. With the bulk of the current squad making its way up through the ranks from the under 18's.Managed by Paul 'rafa' Abbott and Tony Harris. With the help of Mary's own Dave Preston Paul and Tony brought in some expierenced players with a large percentage of them previosly being affiliated with the club in their youth themselves. Currently at the top of the 3rd Div of the south lancs counties needing a maximum of 2 wins from 5 dependant on results look favourites to finish league champions and with already making it to the final of the divisional cup, have a good chance of a double in their first season together.Remarkable really and its all down to hard work from the managers, players and of course the club who have made this venture into the open age league possible and with their continued support for the team. All the lads have gelled really quickly, with a good mix of youth and expierence at the club and their is a good atmosphere around the team. So here's looking forward to the future of open age football at Horwich St Marys with thanks to everybody who has been involved with HSM Res. Good luck to the lads at their final Tues 5th May at Ashton Athletic. Why not come and show your support !
After indeed winning the 3rd division ang going on to make it a double after winning the divisional cup 4 nil against bryn. Mary's then came runners up in a tight finish to the season 2009/10 (div 2) seeing our old friends Golbourne winning the league. Resulting in Mary's making it back to back promotions an excellent achievment ! So Div 1 this year and a tough test, Lets see how this season unfolds.
