My first taste of life at Horwich St.Mary's, like most of us, was as a parent who was impressed with the set-up of this fantastic Club.
My son Ben, joined the Comets in the summer of 2002 as a 7 yr old, and played in the under 8's section of the BBDJFL the following season. During the next 18 months I volunteered to help out with refereeing some matches, and in January 2004, grabbed the opportunity to manage the Comets and embark on a steep but hugely enjoyable learning curve, including a memorable success in the Club's U9's tournament in the summer of 2004, and helping the boys make the daunting leap from mini-soccer to 11-a-side in 2005.
In the summer of 2006, the time had come to move on and join the Dynamos, to help their new manager with the running of the team. At the same time, I was asked by the Club to join the Committee as Volunteer Co-Ordinator, creating a database of players, parents and managers within the club.
It is rewarding to play a part in helping this great Club to grow and achieve its aim of developing its Scholes Bank site into a first class home for all our teams and visitors.
