I first knew about Horwich St Marys when my eldest son Andrew came to play for the club in 1986. My only involvement then was to provide the half time oranges. As the club was still in its infancy there were not many teams but it was desperately difficult to get managers. So I volunteered.
The rest is history.
There have been so many managers, coaches, committee members, players and parents involved with the club since then. All have played a part in the growth of the club and its successes both on and off the field.
My role as secretary has also grown in the years since I was nominated for the position. I would however, not be able to function as secretary if it were not for the support of all the other members of the committee and the trustees. Our most recent club improvements have been the award of the Charter Standard Community Club status and achieving recognition as a registered charity. Our biggest challenge is to come with the long awaited development of Scholes Bank and the fantastic facilities that will enable all our teams to play on one site.
