After a distinguished playing career was cut short by injury (nothing wrong with Lancs Amateur on Saturday and Sunday pub football!), I became involved with Horwich St Mary’s when my eldest lad was taken by a neighbour with his son, for a training session on Scholes Bank when he was an under 8-(he’s now under 16).
He came home thrilled but was in a different age band than the friend who took him, so I took him the following week and have been an ever present since. Became a coach in 99-00 having passed the Junior Manager’s (as was then) and enjoyed it immensely. Was a coach/helper of 2nd son’s team in 03-04 and became manager at start of 05-06. Subsequently passed Level 1 and considering Level 2 if I can fit it in my busy schedule.
Have always enjoyed coaching the kids (even the teenagers!) and when Lesley asked me to help co-ordinate the training, I agreed (albeit reluctantly at first). Now getting to grips with the various organisations we use and with the backing of the committee and all the managers and coaches, we can continue to make HSM one of the most successful junior clubs in the country.
